Malaysians are getting mad at Sugarbook’s Billboard in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur

Yes, a few days ago, it’s almost havoc in Social Media with the said billboards so happened to be erected in the middle of a busy neighborhood. In case for those who less or never travel to Kuala Lumpur, Bangsar is one of the busy lifestyle shopping neighborhood apart from the infamous KLCC.

So what happened actually? According to World of Buzz (NO! We are not related if you are wondering..), one of the netizen decided to make it viral in his twitter account in which he claims such an immoral activities could publicly and widely advertise in this busy city and yet it is approved by the local city municipal council. (Hang on, how would this actually get approved in the first place?)

And the rest is history!

So now let’s put into two perspectives, is this really a bad as it sounds or it is merely some crowdfunding for a person to look for a better lifestyle? Let’s compare!

Sugarbook, it’s a Lifestyle crowdfunding!

According to the CEO and Founder of Sugarbook, Darren Chan, said the app was created to provide a dating platform for women, who can choose what they want from an ideal relationship without being judged.

How does it work?

Directly quoted from the article Entrepreneur ; According to Chan, sugar dating is a modern kind of dating. “We believe the recipe to a successful sugar relationship is to always state down your unique wants and needs before getting into any sugar relationship and that includes monthly allowance expectations, paying tuition fees, house rental, shopping expenses and exotic travel arrangements,” he explains.

So in a way, it does make sense, as we all know that love is not blind, and to support his claim, a Research has shown that financial strain is an essential component of a couple ” s overall financial satisfaction that contributes to marital stability (Gudmunson et al., 2007)

And direct quoted from the same article again Entrepreneur

The platform, which is available ias a mobile app, has over 300,000 members from 60 countries, predominantly from Malaysia, the US, Singapore and the Philippines, in that order. Over 70 per cent of the members are student “Sugar Babies” from universities, single mothers and divorcees. As for “Sugar Daddies”, they range between the age of 30-55, with an average annual income of USD$150,000 to USD$300,000.

As for revenue, in 2018 they saw an increase of 1,500 percent or 15x growth from the previous year. It recently raised a six-digit figure from an undisclosed benefactor.

Phew! That’s a lot of members and a lot of MONEY!

So in the end, it’s like Tinder or Paktor but with the motives of financial support.

Sugarbook, it’s obviously a Prostitute Business!

In the moral sense, isn’t it obvious that it is a way a prostitution form? Let’s take a look at their website: Sugarbook.com

So let’s start with “Sugar Babies”

If you noticed, there are a couple of Malaysians in it, but not sure if these are the real person or some stock picture. Well, they do look “high maintenance”.

This is not catch, the catch is what you are going to see below;

So we understand the first point, but hang on, second point, goal-oriented; “she could be a student, a single mom or simply goal-focused woman who seeks a higher class of life.” Wait, what?! So if a person couldn’t find a way to fund her own high commitment lifestyle she would just resort to Sugar Daddy?

Not forgetting the second point picture, a man putting both his hands on the shoulder of the lady?

Wait…not just that! Third Point, Students?!!

Sugarbook is made up of a large quantity of students in colleges and universities. These sugar babies often benefit from the mentorship, generous allowances, exotic vacations and shopping sprees across the globe.”

That’s so wrong when they just have to mention “exotic” vacations.

Next, we turned to “Sugar Daddies”

Pretty much straight-forward on all the requirements as you can see. Two things for a Sugar Daddy; Fully-loaded and Gentleman.

Whether it is a hanky-panky business or it is mere crowdfunding, we are not here to judge as they may have a reason behind it. Nevertheless, a person with strong good faith and moral will not and never engage in doing anything immoral.

Till then, we leave this here for the internet.
